Nestled in the heart of Storms River village in South Africa’s Garden Route, The Village Lodge intrigued us with some rather affordable accommodations that looked decent. We just had to take a look, so we booked a “Double Room.” Here’s what we experienced during our stay on 28 March 2024.
The Village Lodge Price & Location
First things first. We decided to book a standard Double Room via Booking.com and paid R984 for two people. Breakfast was included in the price. To their credit, the staff also provided us with a business invoice as requested.
Please note: Check The Village Lodge Booking.com listing for up-to-date pricing.

It seems easy enough, right? Well, while the address and general location were easy to find, we had trouble finding the actual entrance where we could park. That’s because the sign isn’t visible from the road, leading to confusion and us turning around twice on the rather busy main road.
The Room & Parking
The obscured entrance and the small parking area frustrated us quite a bit but we did manage to find a good spot. The room was okay but rather small. We had a neat shower and a nice double bed. The mattress and bedding were in good condition, but there was nothing else in the room.
Considering one could get a chalet in the same area, with better parking and a tonne of features for 35% higher cost. I guess you get what you paid for, right? The size of the room and parking, however, did make us just want to go back to the Tsitsikaya Lodge where we stayed the previous night.
Breakfast at The Village Lodge
Early the the morning, one of the staff members at The Village Lodge started making bacon in the common area outside, and when that smell hit our nostrils, the rather cramped accommodation was forgiven. Then, we got inside the eating area, and it was a bit cramped yet again…

Still, the breakfast was good. We ordered a bunch of scrambled eggs and some cheese grillers (you can basically just tell them what you want, and they make it, choosing from breakfast staples such as bacon, eggs, sausage, mushrooms, tomato, etc. The wait wasn’t all too long either (12 minutes), and everything was prepared fresh in the view of the guests.
The Village Lodge Review Verdict
The price was steep for a big high for such a small room even with breakfast included, but the breakfast itself and the smell of bacon from the common area in the morning was a great pick-me-up. The Village Lodge does need to improve their entrance visibility from the road, and the double room was nothing to write home about, so we are gonna stop right here and give this accommodation a 7 out of 10.
