With our trip to Cape Town behind us and quite a terrible, life-threatening experience at Skeerhok Padstal, I just wanted to relax for a day and night. That’s when a rather cheap accommodation for the area, Lavendel Cottage, delivered the perfect Sedgefield experience.
Price, Location & Parking
Sedgefield was the first town in Africa to be awarded Slow Town status, and while it is getting a bit busy in the main street, The Island area holds true to the Slow Town status. That’s exactly where Lavendel Cottage is located. We visited Lavendel Cottage for just one day for the night of 3 May 2024 and paid just R855 with a bit of a discount via Booking.com.
The precise address of the Lavendel Cottage is 36 Hertzog St, The Island, Sedgefield, 6573
Free parking was available on site. The pathway is just a tiny bit on the thin side, but we could get through it with our SUV with no problem. A minibus taxi might have an issue if you don’t know how to drive properly.
The Lavendel Cottage Experience & Extras

I think the image above is more valuable than a thousand words. Don’t worry; I won’t drag this Lavendel Cottage review out that much. My point is, just look at that! The host welcomed us with open arms in the fully-stocked kitchen. They even left some beers and snacks for us, completely free of charge and not part of the description on Booking.com.

The host left all this for us, free of charge!
The Lavendel Cottage is huge, with a fully-equipped kitchen, living area, bathroom, and bedroom. Then, you can also just head upstairs for another bathroom and a nice little room, perfect for kids to sleep in. There are fans, board games, and even a washing machine for those who stay for more than just a day.

Then, there’s the outside. You’ve got a very nice place to sit in the mornings and catch a little sun, with glass doors covering the area. Outside, there’s a BBQ and a real garden atmosphere.
The best part about Lavendel Cottage, however, is how it makes you feel. As soon as we stepped inside, we felt at home. As we arrived, we even saw some beautiful turtles in the garden as the host showed us around. My childhood memories flooded back at Lavendel Cottage from more than two decades ago when we spent holidays in Sedgefield with my parents.

It’s priceless. Just look at how well-maintained the garden is. We saw turtles on that grass outside. The host told us that when they were working on their main house, they stayed in the cottage for over a year. That’s probably why it really feels like every piece of furniture was chosen with love. It is, after all, a place even the hosts loved to stay themselves!
Lavendel Cottage in Sedgefield Review Verdict

Suppose you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of it all and just enjoy the quiet town of Sedgefield like you should, relaxing and taking things slow. In that case, the Lavendel Cottage is the most authentic experience possible. The hosts felt like our parents or grandparents and made extra effort to make us feel at home.
We will return to this beautiful place, hopefully for a full week instead of just one night, to unwind and relax and maybe watch some turtles. That’s what it’s all about, and Lavendel Cottage delivers. We can’t give this accommodation anything less than 10/10 stars.
