Early in 2024, we stayed for one night in Wilderness, Western Cape, and thanks to a recommendation from our accommodation hosts, we went to Salinas Beach Restaurant for an evening bite. Here’s how the dining experience went down for first-timers.
Salinas Dinner Time Experience

I had hake, snoek, and sweet potato fish cakes as my starter, and the taste blew me away. I’ve never had a fishcake quite as nice and juicy, with the clear and sharp taste of snoek coming through, as I’ve had at Salinas Beach Restaurant.
After our first cocktails and starters, it was getting super cold, so the waiter helped us move in from the deck to inside the restaurant, which has a fireplace to get us nice and toasty for the main courses. The staff remained friendly and punctual throughout the experience, but I do wish that the food had come out a bit faster as we waited roughly 17 minutes for starters, and over 30 minutes for mains.

Speaking of mains, the image above shows the beautiful honey, olive, and mint chicken breast dish with a Moroccan sauce and, of course, free-range chicken. The honey was a bit overpowering, in my opinion, and the dish was quite spicy but still good. I hate the whole plate, leaving only a bit of sauce on the side. For someone who loves sauce, I can say Salinas is definitely generous.

Dining at Salinas: Review Verdict
Salinas Beach Restaurant in Wilderness has a great atmosphere and a beautiful location where you can smell and hear the waves crash as you chow down on good food. The prices are decent for the service and quality of food you get. The fishcakes were divine, and the main course meal was good but not incredible. I have to say that the parking is a bit of a challenge with a bigger vehicle such as an SUV, and we were there at a not-so-busy time. With all that in mind, I would recommend Salinas if you are in the mood for good food and atmosphere, right next to the sea.
