On our way back from Cape Town earlier in 2024, we stopped at the Figtree Bakehouse in Wilderness, Western Cape, South Africa. I was in the mood for some eggs, and since the establishment had easy access via the Timberlake Village, we had a seat and experienced a near-perfect breakfast croissant. Let’s dig in!
Breakfast at Figtree Bakehouse

The image above says it all, really. As per the menu’s instructions, we asked what the breakfast specials were, and as a result, we ordered the egg/bacon/cheese croissant at the waiter’s suggestion, which came with a nice cup of coffee.
The croissant was flaky and yummy, with farmstall style butter and perfectly cooked scrambled eggs, just the way I like them. Not too fluffy and not mixed with any other ingredients like milk, the egg taste was simply out of this world. I didn’t enquire which types of chicken eggs these were, but I can assure you they were of the highest quality. The bacon could have been just a tad bit more crispy, but that’s me nitpicking. Would eat the whole thing again!

The waiter was consistently smiling and quick to help us with any order and with the bill. We tipped generously because his service was brilliant, not intruding on when we ate, but still available close by just in case we did need something. I wish I could recall his name so I could praise him on a personal level in this review.

Figtree Bakehouse Review Verdict
We are going back to the Figtree Bakehouse when we are in or around the Wilderness area again. The atmosphere and overall experience were just flawless, as the breakfast croissant was nearly perfect. The fresh air revitalized me for the drive back home, and honestly, I haven’t experienced service of this quality in quite a while.
