The Kitchen (Despatch) Ongoing Review

Take a seat, and maybe get a napkin ready for our ongoing The Kitchen Takeaways (Despatch) review! Located in the not-so-quiet town of Despatch (because people drive like maniacs) in the Eastern Cape, South Africa, there’s a takeaway spot right on the main street, aiming to deliver tasty and affordable food options, from pizzas (woodfire!) to steaks, ribs, burgers, and Sunday lunches.

In our ongoing review, we share essential details about The Kitchen in Despatch and our order-by-order experience, so expect a tonne of updates as we continue to fill our bellies.

The Kitchen March 2024 Food Experience

We ordered the “Lockdown Special,” which is two burgers and two portions of chips for just R120, as well as a “Rib and Chip” burger special, which is only R60 for two of these burgers, functioning as a chip chow with rib meat.

The Kitchen Despatch review

We are happy to report that for just R160, we were incredibly full. In fact, four people could get fed easily with this option. While the Lockdown Special chicken burgers were great, with a nice helping of mushroom sauce, cheese, and all the trimmings, the Rip and Chip burgers stood out. Soft rib meat (real ribs pulled from the bone) and a delicious sauce had us drooling and too full to move.

Steers and Spur should probably take some notes from The Kitchen’s rib offerings.
