Tsitsikamma Cattle Baron Review (Storms Mouth)

->

During a stay at Storms River Village Lodge, we felt a bit peckish, so we headed to the Tsitsikamma National Park, drove all the way to the sea, and took our seats at the Cattle Baron for some seafood. Here’s what we experienced!

Cattle Baron Storms River Seafood Experience

First, it is important to note that the Cattle Baron, when we visited it, was a temporary structure as a brand-new facility was under construction. Even so, the cooks should remain the same, right? We had some great outside seating, where we could look over the ocean, getting that saltwater smell as waves crashed into the rocks.

After a good helping of Devil’s Peak lager, my fiance and I wanted to try some seafood. The restaurant was quite busy, and the waiter looked a bit flustered.

Even so, we received our food in less than 30 minutes. I ordered the hake, calamari, and chips combo, while my fiance ordered the prawns and calamari.

The hake melted in my mouth. It was divine. The calamari was properly cooked with a nice breading. Soft and not chewy at all, accompanied by some great sauces that complemented the dish very well. My fiance enjoyed her food, not complaining once during our eats.

My only complaint was that the chips weren’t really crispy and felt a bit dry. While I didn’t finish my chips, both the calamari and hake went straight to my tummy…cause it was a damn fine experience without any major flaws.

With the Google map embedded above, you should have no issues getting there and enjoy some great fish while you are at it!

Cattle Baron Tsitsikamma Review Verdict

We had a great time at the Cattle Baron in Tsitsikamma. Despite the temporary structure, the staff did well to meet our needs and the food was out quickly. The seafood had no apparent flaws, and all sauces were great. The only issue was the chips, which were both not crispy and a bit dry. I don’t know exactly how you accomplished that, but all in all, it was an excellent first experience.

We will return once the new restaurant is built to try out their service and food once again…maybe having some steaks next time!
